Why Ange Was Sacked...

And How Palace Could Miss Out on Europe

On the latest episode of the ‘Where’s The Money Gone?’ podcast, former Charlton Athletic and Sunderland director Charlie Methven share his thoughts on both the departure of a rare trophy winning manager at Spurs and the European fate of Crystal Palace.

Ange Postecolglou secured Tottenham’s first major honour in 17 years, the Europa League, but Charlie felt his departure was inevitable after a dismal season in the EPL.

“His wage budget is about fifth highest in the League, and he's managed to finish 17th. That is probably, I'm going to guess, the highest level of underperformance of almost any club in the top four divisions,” said Charlie.

In his view, Postecoglou “disqualified himself from being a serious manager, when he said earlier in the season that he didn't care about set pieces.”

Charlie also explains that Crystal Palace could miss out on their highly anticipated European debut after winning the FA Cup, because shareholder John Textor also has a stake in French club Lyon, who have already qualified.

The podcast is taking a break for the summer but you can listen to more episodes here.
