Some of you may know - some of you won’t - that I present a weekly music show on Brum Radio, indulging my love of punk and indie sounds, with a dash of reggae and soul thrown in.
This week, I met Maggie K De Monde, vocalist with Scarlet Fantastic, who had a huge hit in the mid 80s with ‘No Memory’.
She also enjoyed success with her previous band Swansway, who charted with ‘Soul Train’.
They were part of the post-punk and New Romantic scene that emerged around Birmingham’s Rum Runner club - of which Duran Duran were the most famous alumni.
Maggie keen to talk about her brother Paul Edmond, a hugely talented photographer who snapped key figures on the scene including Simon Le Bon, Boy George, and Kevin Rowland of Dexys.
You can buy all three volumes of Paul’s photography here.
Have a listen to the show, as well. There’s loads of new music from the likes of Loose Articles, Hamish Hawk and Daisy Grenade; plus classics by Au Pairs, The Fall, Red Kross and more.
My favourite this week, though, was a rarely heard track by Jackie Mittoo, legendary keyboard player and co-founder of the The Skatalites.
Have a listen to that track and the rest of the show on Brum Radio here.
